pins; Peggy Quinn, one of the versions of the Grant rope trick."
We now have the names of the officers of the Magigals Houdini Club Assembly and they are all working very hard. President, Alida Carter; vice-president, Laura Shingler; secretary, Frances Ireland; treasurer, Kay Usedom. Plans are being made for their first big meeting, if the usual Carter Conclave is held at Eagle River, Wis., this mid-summer.
Agnes Palmer tells me that she and Jack did not plan on any guests on Mother's Day and ended up by entertaining 65 soldiers. This is the way it happened: More soldiers were given leaves then the community entertainment center had planned on. Someone phoned and asked Agnes if they could take two of the boys for dinner, she said yes and that they might as well send four instead of two. She had a turkey in the oven and had planned to have it last more than one meal. She said there was not even enough left for hash. The Palmers got word to the rest of the community that they would put on a Magic show for any who cared to bring their soldier guests over. It ended with 65 present (until 3:00 A. M.) for a grand show with Jack Wilson coming in to help Agnes and Jack. Pretty swell people — don't you think so too?
A letter from Ren Clark following the Fort Worth Convention compliments Teddy Muir of Magigals Oakland Assembly on her nice work in assisting her husband, Jimmy Muir, and Maldo at the convention.
On June 28th, Parent Assembly entertained their friends and husbands at a party at Harry and Frances Usher's beautiful home at the Pacific Palisades. Marie Morgan had planned a grand barbecued beef dinner and this was followed by a Magic program. Taking part were: Everett Morgan, M. C.; Phil Dillinger; Sylvia and Howard Gerlach; Carolyn Trask; George Baxter; Peter Godfrey; Harry and Frances Usher. We had the pleasure of welcoming two new members, Kay Usedom of Chicago and Los Angeles, who takes in all the Magicians' conventions, and Renee Haal Godfrey who, besides being a motion picture starlet, assists her husband* beautifully with his Magic. Again we had among our guests Gig Miller and the Great Leon.

The Great Leon talked to Magigals Parent Assembly at the May 11 meeting held at the home of Jennie Thayer, with Ora Dillinger as hostess. His subject was "Magic as I have known it." It is not often that you hear Leon reminisce, and everyone found it very interesting. It was my hard luck to be confined to my home with a bad cold. Another high light of the evening was welcoming Mrs. Houdini back after a serious illness. Mildred Postle brought the movies of Magigals doing Magic that George Postle took at the party at their home in May. Bill Larsen won the $5 book of U. S. Saving Stamps. Mrs. Houdini brought two bottles of perfume which were raffled off thus helping replenish the treasury.
Our first opportunity to entertain and talk with a visiting Magigal afforded itself May 25th, when 18 of us gathered at the Hollywood Hotel to meet Mrs. Hendricks of St. Louis. The men also were invited. Another honored guest was Gig Miller, who is now working with Bert Kalmer on a picture portraying the life of Marilyn Miller. After dinner "Gig" showed us some of the beautiful silks which he paints. Mrs. Hendricks told of the activities of our St. Louis Assembly. An impromptu Magic program was given: Gerrie Larsen, Soft Soap; Carolyn Trask, Penetration Glass; Agnes Palmer, Knots in Silks; Bill Larsen, a card trick; Floyd Thayer, a coin trick.
Received from Peggy Quinn of Seattle: "We had our monthly meeting May 14th with a bit of surprise with it, Bob King, very fine Ventriloquist and Magician. He put on a very nice show with his little stooge 'Tiny'. Needless to say we enjoyed it. Had a very good attendance and two new members were voted in, Madaline Kessler, and Mrs. Powers. We opened with a dinner at the Y. W. C. A., then we had our business meeting and show. Max-ine Long did a card trick with cute patter; Eunice Hendricks, a trick with two safety
